Busy lately

I feel like Michelle and I tend to do a lot on the weekends… which is probably evened out by the fact that I do very little during the week besides work, drive, and play Warcraft. Two weeks ago was Walk the World and my mom was in town, last weekend we went canoeing on rapids for the first time, and yesterday we went to a music festival / organic and sustainable farming rural fair kind of thing. We saw Eddie From Ohio and Catfish Hodge, both of whom I rather liked. It was a great evening of summer music, outdoor food, and laying out blankets.

Over the past couple weeks I’ve been tinkering with FreeBSD and getting a print/file server running at home again. Wireless support is a pain so I ended up having to run 6-CURRENT to get it working but now I’ve got a box in the corner with FireWire and WiFi and I’m working on the printing and local backups part. Going to be doing the same thing for the office shortly for faster/better backups. I forgot how fun it is to build neat tech solutions on a shoestring with free software.

Has anyone had any experience with getting trailer hitches on a car? We’re probably going to get one on the Jetta so we can cart some stuff up to CT next weekend (seeing Garrison Keillor and James Taylor at Tanglewood, BTW) that belongs to Michelle’s parents. Either that or I’ll swap vehicles with her dad for a couple weeks and commute with a Jeep for a while (which is not altogether bad). We already have to rent a truck for the actual main move so we’re trying to keep costs down.

If you ever need to get rid of ants, try grape jelly mixed with borax. I’ll report back once we’ve given that some time and see what happens… if my cat wasn’t such a slob with her food I don’t think it would be a problem. But since it is, I wanted to avoid insecticide and stuff like that and go natural. More as it develops…

I went to u-haul and got a hitch put on my Rav4 before the move to Colorado. I don’t know a ton about cars, but I think that’s what did mine in. My car was never the same since. It never had great pick up, but after that, it really seemed to die a slow and painful death (poor car). Of course, it could be coincidence. But I would definitely read your owners manul before trying anything. In my opinion, the Jeep is probably the safer option.

Also, our a cappella group does a song by Eddie from Ohio called 1000 Sarah’s. Great song! Lots of fun! =) I’ve heard Eddie is really good live!
